SASSA Assures Beneficiaries That Gold Payment Card Is Still Valid
A plethora of fraud emerged related to SASSA in the previous year, disclosing misleading details while declaring that this information comes from the SASSA agency. Not long ago, rumors circulated that SASSA’s (South African Social Security Agency) gold card would become invalid after the expiry date. It created a frenzy and confusion among the citizens. However, it was proven to be false news as SASSA assured the recipients that they would continue receiving the benefits.

SASSA Gold Card
It allows recipients to have free transactions at ATMs. The card allows the beneficiaries to make purchases at stores that allow payment with the card and withdraw money at ATMs etc. This card also ensures that recipients do not pay any charges for the first three transactions and provide protection from any illegal deductions.
SASSA Issued a Statement
In order to assure the public about the fake news circulating on social media, Provincial SASSA representative Senzeni Ngubeni stated that the Gold card remains valid despite having an expiratory date. According to him, recipients must not be alarmed and “succumbed to the hijacking by scammers.” Nor should they fall for misleading news that their card expires in April 2023.
This misleading news circulated on social media after the Gold card holders experienced some hindrances in collecting their child support grant from the Post Bank. Moreover, this problem also affected the beneficiaries of SRD (Social Relief Of Distress). The hindrance was reported to be because of an external threat to the Post Bank.
Owning to this, SASSA had to cease the gold card transactions in December for a certain period of time. Hence leading to the emergence of rumors on social media which spread a wave of doubt among the beneficiaries.
The SASSA agency assured citizens that the “card is authentic.” This means that the beneficiaries can still use gold cards to make transactions at ATMs and can also use them in the Post Bank and in any other shop that allows payment with this card. Moreover, applicants are advised to give their private bank account to SASSA as an alternative for “safe and easy payment.”
According to SASSA representative Paseka Lestsasi, Beneficiaries will be notified if there are any updates regarding their grant on time. Hence they should not fall victim to these fraudsters. People were further advised to be wary of anyone impersonating a SASSA official and targeting elderly and disabled people. Hence, if you observe any suspicious activity, you should immediately report it to the police.

SASSA Warned People Against New Misleading Whatsapp Message
SASSA also advised people to be wary of false WhatsApp messages. This message notifies people about how they can apply online for R700 without making a trip to Post Office. The agency denounced such a message. And said that you could not apply online for grants because recipients have to come and collect the form. Moreover, there is no increase in the grant amount. Hence you should not succumb to such lies.
Final Verdict
In the end, recipients can be at ease that their gold payment card is still valid even after the due date. Hence you can keep on receiving the grants. Recently a tremendous amount of fraud cases related to SASSA have been reported, and many beneficiaries have fallen victim to such scams and have lost huge amounts of their money. Hence, rendering them helpless.
The agency advises the client to be on the lookout for scammers, fraudsters, and any imposters impersonating the SASSA officials who exploit the vulnerable people of society. Hence you should quickly report any misleading news regarding the SASSA, as it’s a welfare system that is essential for the improvement of the state.
