The South African Social Security Agency has been the beam of light for a multitude of South African households. It has been smoothly serving as the meal ticket for masses for years now.

We are here to update you on the progress in the “ glitch” situation of the SASSA SRD reimbursements, which were initially due on 4,5 or April 06, 2023.
SASSA Jammed after Technical Glitch!
On April 03 April 3rd, 2023, SASSA took to its microblogging site’ account; Twitter account, to inform the masses about the technical issue and assure them about the situation. SASSA put out its words:
“Please note our SRD website is intermittently having challenges. The technical team is working on resolving it as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,”
However, even after seven days of spotting the issue, there has been no update from the Agency itself. In addition to this, the beneficiaries are in dismay as the delay in monthly grants has restrained them from financing their easter celebrations.

One of the Twitterati requested the Agency to work on the issue with an attachment that shows a screenshot from the website. The asynchronous memo from the website said:
“We are currently enhancing the Online Services Channel and it is undergoing maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”
Not only that the grant beneficiaries are complaining about the recent glitch, but some of the complainants have also surfaced who have been devoid of grants since the year 2022. A few others complain that the details of the April payment have not been updated yet. Hence, this technical glitch has stirred chaos among the users.
While the Agency is silent on the topic, let us hope the glitch is recovered as soon as possible by their technical team. However, as promised by the Agency, there is a high chance that the website will start working pretty soon.

Grant Payment Dates for April
SASSA issued a yearly schedule of their grant reimbursement on April 05, 2023. According to the schedule, the payment dates for different beneficiary groups are as follows:
- Grant Payment Date for Senior Citizen: 04/04/2023
- Grant Payment Date for Disabled Citizens: 05/04/2023
- Grant Payment Date for Children: 06/04/2023
However, the Agency issues a monthly schedule for SRD grants, and the beneficiaries can still issue their payment any day after the set date. The beneficiaries can withdraw the amount whenever it suits their schedule.
Notably, the Agency does not publish any date for special COVID-19 SRD grants.
Grant Surge
Finance Minister; Enoch Godongwana, revealed that the government had allocated R66 billion to social development. Out of which, R36 billion will subsidize the extended R350 SRD grant until March 2024.
In his budget speech in February, the finance minister disclosed that the SRD grants would be raised for this year. Starting from April 01, the disability and old age grants will escalate by R90. This escalation will be followed by an increase in the grant by R10 starting from October 01, making the total grant up to R 2,090.
The child support grant will increase by R30, raising the grant from R480 to R510 starting from October 01. Similarly, the foster care grant will rise from R1,070 to R1,130.
